Broad Reach

News

You never know what life has in store when you volunteer!

Such has been the case for one of our volunteers, Jean-loup Dalle. Introduced to Broad Reach Foundation through his friend and Broad Reach Board member, Michael Jones, he initially expected to come and help get the boats ready for launch last spring. Since then he's found himself volunteering many hours with Broad Reach. During this time he re-painted Diogenes' deck and varnished her bright works, enjoyed several program outings with different groups, spent some sleepless nights during the LO300 manning the finish line and managed the foredeck of Hot Tub as part of the racing program each Wednesday evening. We're especially appreciative of the time he contributed to help recover Shillelagh from Halifax.

As of December 2008, we're thrilled that Jean-loup is joining the Broad Reach Foundation as a staff member where he will take over as Sailing Director and will also be involved with fund raising and sponsorship. Alex Fairweather, our former Sailing Director has now left Toronto to live in Vancouver.

Jean-loup comes with a small business entrepreneurial background and many miles of sailing adventures. From sailing his 40' wooden boat in the Caribbean to a stint in a French submarine for 12 months during his military service and just recently, a sailboat delivery from Charleston, South Carolina, to the British Virgin Islands. He is currently working toward his certification as an International Yacht Master Offshore.

Thank you Jean-loup and welcome aboard, we hope you enjoy your voyages with Broad Reach Foundation.
