Saturday 18th July our youth crew Chris, Emily, Jinnel and Peace and Broad Reach volunteers once again supported the racers in the exciting Lake Ontario 300 race. Thank you to all who came out to help on the day, on the finish line or with the shore crew. This year we had 4 youth and 12 volunteers who participated. I wanted to share that many of the racers took time to thank us for helping out and welcoming them back.
After an exciting down-wind start on Saturday the fleet left with 171 boats, including 3 single-handed competitors. The racers were either competing in the 300 nautical mile Main Duck course or the 190 nautical mile Scotch Bonnet course. Flyer was the first boat to return just before midnight on Sunday evening after sailing for 1 day, 13 hours and 3 minutes. By lunchtime Tuesday most of the boats had returned with only a handful still left to contend with the challenging light winds.
The awards dinner will take place in October and I look forward to then being able to report the total amount of sponsorship raised by the racers who choose to compete for the Charity Champions Trophy.
