    Melanie Croft-White
Aquatic science biologist at Department of Fisheries and Oceans

Melanie has been working as an aquatic biologist for the last 15 years, studying and helping to conserve lakes, streams and wetlands in the Great Lakes region. Some days you can find Melanie out in the field, in a boat or canoe collecting data, but more often she is at her desk, being a detective trying to solve aquatic science mysteries with the data that was collected.
Her formal education includes a BSc in Biology from the University of Waterloo and an MSc in coastal wetland ecology from McMaster University, but her interest in science, nature and water began long before that. Camping, canoeing and sailing were her childhood pastimes, but her passion for the Great Lakes did not emerge until she began sailing on the tallships STV Pathfinder and TS Playfair as a teenager. Five summers and five Great lakes later she knew that wanted to turn her love of science and the Great Lakes into a career.
Melanie will share with us some of her knowledge about invasive species in the Great Lakes and her journey to become a biologist.
