Carmanah Lighthouse is one of the lighthouses in a stretch of Canadian waters known as the Graveyard of the Pacific. Hundreds of ships have been wrecked along this section of coastline. The West Coast Trail, which this lighthouse sits on, is a trail which shipwrecked crews would use to get back to civilization. The trail is 75km and follows a large section of the coast on Vancouver Island’s western coast. The hike generally takes about 5 t0 7 days, but people have been known to run it in a day! It is one of the most beautiful sections of Canadian wilderness you will find on the west coast. The lighthouse itself is situated on a rugged little peninsula and is a fantastic spot to stop for lunch.
