This was an amazing experience overall for me. The extreme conditions built my character and the group work brought out my leadership qualities. The gorgeous water and the north's beautiful nature brought out my passion for geography. I developed many skills involving navigation which were really cool but more than that, I learned about resilience and in the process gained some self confidence. Overall, my time on the boat was so much fun and definitely worth doing.

I learned so many new things that I never knew before about sailing. I had learned how to use the tiller to steer the boat, the difference between starboard, port, stern, and bow and to watch out for that boom. It was a great feeling being out on Lake Ontario just learning, relaxing and sailing and hearing the wind and the water bouncing off the boat. The kids on the crew were fun to be with - we spent time in the classroom learning the theory of sailing. We would then go out on the boat and have fun trying to actually do it on the boat. It made for some laughs both in and out of the classroom. Several of us wrote the test for our boating license which we should be getting in the mail soon.

one or the best things I’ve done that involves being outside and having fun. I got to collaborate with people my age and older and got to experience what it is really like to be with people you barely know but feel so close to them after only a few days. not only ways it a great bonding experience and I made a lot of friends but it also taught me so many cool things about sailing.

My family and I are immigrants and don’t have much of anything. But I am rich – I have fun, I have friends, I meet amazing people and I look forward to this summer again. It’s because I am a member of Broad Reach – I’m rich.

That was absolutely incredibly amazingly awesome This is all done with the hope that students can one day apply their skills and leadership in becoming the Captains of their own “boat” – a job, a university education or a dinghy on the Lake. Imagine: keeping your cool while navigating a boat full of people through the awesome wind and wave of Lake Ontario. It makes Algebra seem like a walk in the park!

My daughter has always struggled with confidence, particularly with trying new things. I have been overjoyed to see her confidence grow with each passing day of this program. The instructors were of particular influence on her, as she related so many details about how warm, welcoming and funny each one was. This program has given my child an immense amount of fortitude in facing new challenges while also giving her an opportunity that she will never forget.
